Cocoa Bean
China Cocoa Bean Origin:
In 1922, there were introduced cacao trees in Taiwan and other places in China. Nowadays, the main planting areas in mainland China are in Hainan, Guangxi and Yunnan. Cocoa trees are preferred on the gentle slopes formed by hot, humid climate and organic-rich alluvial soils. They are not suitable for growth on poor drainage and heavy clay or in areas often affected by typhoons. Therefore, in China, only some parts of these three regions have an environment suitable for the growth of cocoa trees.

World Cocoa Bean Origin:
African cocoa beans account for about 65% of the world's total cocoa production, but most of them can only be used to produce ordinary popular chocolate; cocoa beans produced in cocoa plantations are of high quality and are loved by many famous chocolate producers. The production of cocoa beans needs to be based on the appearance, size, color, aroma and taste of the cocoa fruit.

1. Criollo, the best of cocoa, has a unique aroma, but the yield is rare, equivalent to the Arabica coffee beans in coffee and brown beans, accounting for only 5% of global production; mainly growing in Venezuela, the Caribbean, Madagascar, Java and other places.

2. Forastero, the highest yield, accounting for 80% of global production, spicy, bitter and sour, equivalent to Robusta in coffee beans, mainly used to produce ordinary popular Chocolate; this is the case with cocoa beans produced in West Africa, and is also grown in Malaysia, Indonesia, Brazil and other places. This kind of beans requires intense roasting to compensate for the lack of flavor. It is for this reason that most dark chocolates have a scorching aroma.

3. Trinitario, the two hybrids mentioned above, named after the development of Trinidad Island, combined with the advantages of the first two cocoa beans, yielding about 15%, distribution of origin with Kerry Oro, like Criollo, is regarded as a treasure in cocoa for the production of high-quality chocolate, because only these two kinds of beans can provide the acidity, balance and complexity of high-quality chocolate.

Because cocoa beans are tropical plants, there are few places that can be grown in China. Cocoa plantations are only found in parts of Guangxi, Yunnan, and Hainan, and the variety that can be grown is limited, and the output is not very impressive. The world's cocoa beans are distributed on both sides of the equator. In West Africa, Ghana, Nigeria and Cameroon have the highest yields. In Latin America, the production of cocoa beans in Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico and other places is also optimistic. In Asia, Malaysia and Indonesia have the largest production of cocoa beans.
